A Family Day with Fun for All Ages

Since the 1st of May fell on Labour Day, a public holiday, it presented a perfect opportunity for families to gather. Capitalizing on this, JCC organized a special Family Day event, welcoming up to 300 participants from the Chinese, English and Dialect sections.

Activities Tailored for Every Age Group

To ensure a fun-filled day for the large and diverse crowd, activities were thoughtfully spread across three multi-purpose halls. Additionally, there was an outdoor cycling event for those seeking some fresh air and exercise.

Great Sounds of Music

It was a well-organized event, with MPH1 quickly reaching capacity.

Martin Cheah was in MPH1 and here is his report:

A group of singers from The Yesterday Today Radio performed on stage. The group leader, a former member of the JCC Chinese section and a close friend of Pastor Admond, even posted a video of the event on YouTube.

They entertained the audience from 9:00am to 12:00pm, singing a mix of old songs in Chinese, Cantonese, and English. With a large group, they took turns to sing.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the 3-hour performance, clapping, laughing, and singing along. Rev Dr Koh Nam Seng, a former DJ, delighted the crowd by taking a turn to sing and dance to three of his popular songs.

Pastor Admond also joined in the fun, singing the James Taylor classic ‘You’ve Got a Friend’ with his friend.”

Youth and Young Adults

Zheng Lin captured the joy and energy of our youth and young adults on Family Day:

“The young people gathered at MPH3, where they kicked things off with ice-breaker games designed to fill their entire day (12 hours) with one-on-one appointments. The goal? To get to know 12 different people!

Next came the “bible quiz.” Each team sent a representative to act out a biblical scene, and the fastest team to raise their hand and guess the correct answer scored a point.

Feeling energized, the young people decided that Family Day called for something more active. They weren’t content to stay indoors any longer. A collective buzz of excitement filled the air as they transformed an open space into a Captain Ball battlefield.

Laughter erupted as teams formed, showcasing a playful mix of abilities. The winning team also contributed points to their overall score.

The teams then returned to MPH3 for the results announcement and prize distribution. The competition was incredibly close, with only a single point separating the winning team from the others.”

Fun Cycling: Seniors Shine with Energy and Teamwork

The Family Day event saw a fantastic display of energy and camaraderie with a group of older participants proving that age is just a number. These active seniors hopped on their bikes and together with their younger cycling enthusiasts embarked on a challenging yet rewarding 20km round trip to West Coast Park Playground and back to JCC.

Throughout the ride, the spirit of teamwork shone brightly. Participants looked out for one another, ensuring a safe and enjoyable journey for all. Despite the physical exertion, the group’s laughter and smiles were contagious, creating an atmosphere of shared fun and accomplishment.

The event culminated in a sense of “exhausting fun and gladness” (as described by Fong SL, one of the cyclists), a testament to the strong bonds and friendships nurtured within the group. This inspiring display of enthusiasm and teamwork is a true highlight of the Family Day celebrations.

At the Children’s Playground

Children and toddlers undoubtedly claimed the greatest share of fun. From classic games to captivating performances, the event provided a treasure trove of entertainment for our youngest family members.

Classic games like musical chairs had them squealing with glee as they raced for the remaining seat when the music stopped. Jenga stacking offered a delightful challenge, demanding focus and coordination as they carefully added blocks to the ever-growing tower.

The playing run mat was a big hit with many kids! It offered a unique way for them to explore movement and coordination in a safe and engaging environment.

The water zone was a haven for splashing fun! Toddlers were captivated by the simple act of scooping water, while budding anglers honed their skills in the toy fishing pond, reeling in colourful plastic catches. It was a chance for playful children to let loose and splash without a worry.

But the true highlight was the captivating magic show. Wide-eyed amazement filled the room as the magician’s dazzling tricks and illusions transported the children to a world of wonder and awe.

Family Bonding

It’s heartwarming to see the JCC family across generations coming together. The delicious bento sets served at the end seemed to taste even better with the added warmth of fellowship. It was truly a memorable occasion for all.
