Baker’s Hut Community Fellowship Lunch

On the quiet Saturday (19th April 2025), before Easter Sunday, when there were no other church activities, Baker’s Hut organized a fellowship lunch where participants brought their home cooked dishes to share with others.

Around 10 persons from the neighbourhood, including children, joined the 10 JCCians attending the event. The group of 20 in MPH1 enjoyed chatting, playing games, singing songs, celebrating a birthday, and learning to fold and cabbage-spring onion dumplings, guided by a family from China (not in the photo) who had already started their demonstration by the time we arrived around 11:30 am. Joo See eagerly began learning the recipe. While the dumplings looked quite interesting, this dish might not become a staple in our home cooking as it doesn’t quite appeal to my taste.

I surveyed the table, my eyes taking in the tempting array of kueh pie tee, corn meatballs, curry chicken, baked chicken wings, pink rice cakes (peng kueh), egg custard pies, beehoon, and more. However, we had to wait for the dumplings to be cooked before we could start eating.

The meal was quite satisfying as we have many good cooks in the Baker’s Hut Team. The usual “more food than people” situation resulted in many of us taking home a lot of leftovers to enjoy for our Sunday breakfast.

Peggy organized a sing-along session with Wong Mui providing the guitar accompaniment. She then divided the people into two groups for some enjoyable games. A delightful cake was then produced to celebrate the birthday of one of our guests.

The whole event ended around 3 pm. As it was raining at that time, some of our guests were ferried back by those who drove.

Lydia who kindly ferried an Indian family home shared that they were so happy with the event that they requested to be invited when we hold another such event. Unfortunately, the next Baker’s Hut session we had planned falls on Voting Day, so it is postponed till June.

Consider joining in the Baker’s Hut activities and you can make someone happy.
