Following Christ Beyond Borders: YAMission Trip to Cambodia 2025

From 6th to 9th June, a team of 11 young adults and 1 child from JCC—Amy, Bennett, Bernice, Clement, Ethan, Gabriel, Huiling, Jodie, Jonathan, Tsu Ern, Xiu Feng, and myself—embarked on a fulfilling mission trip to Cambodia. We had the privilege of partnering with Zewen, our dedicated missionary in Cambodia, who has been faithfully serving there for many years.
Zewen has helped establish and nurture several impactful ministries across Cambodia, including The Girls’ Brigade (GB), The Boys’ Brigade (BB), and several youth discipleship efforts. Our mission team had the opportunity to step into this thriving landscape—not to take over, but to learn, serve, and encourage.
A Mission with Purpose
Our team’s objectives were threefold:
- Exposure – To experience firsthand what it means to be involved in overseas missions.
- Encouragement – To support the Cambodian youths in their journey of faith and challenge them to be accountable to one another.
- Fellowship – To build bonds of love and unity as brothers and sisters in Christ across cultures.
Lesson from the Field
One of the most powerful takeaways from the trip were the 5 Cs of Ministry, which reminded us of what sustainable, faithful service looks like:
- Character – Integrity in word and action.
- Consistency – Showing up regularly and reliably.
- Collaboration – Teamwork within and across cultures.
- Commitment – Dedication through challenges and joys.
- Competency – Serving with skill and diligence.
Serving on the Ground
During our time in Cambodia, we engaged with different groups in practical and heartfelt ways:
- We shared with the girls about the significance of The Girls’ Brigade and how it can shape them into women of godly character.
- We encouraged and equipped the youth through teaching ministry structure using the Navigator’s Wheel—focusing on Bible study, prayer, evangelism, and fellowship.
- We brought joy to children by teaching them to make handmade tote bags using recycled t-shirts.
- We spent a memorable day bringing the children to the safari, giving them not just fun but also an experience to remember.
A Shared Journey of Faith
This mission trip became far more than we imagined; it was a deeply spiritual journey for all of us. We saw God at work in the laughter of the children, the humility of the local leaders, and the deep hunger for discipleship in the hearts of the youths. More than that, we were reminded that missions is not just a moment—it’s a mindset and a lifestyle.
We returned home not just with stories to tell, but with hearts challenged to live out the Gospel in our everyday lives, wherever God places us.
“Missions isn’t just about going overseas—it’s about being faithful wherever we are planted. But sometimes, God brings us across borders to show us just how big His family is.” – YAMission Team 2025
Thanksgiving
This mission trip would not have been possible without the generous support of our fellow JCCians—from love donations to the donation of countless pieces of pre-loved clothing. The team is deeply grateful for all the love, prayers, and encouragement that covered us throughout this journey.
Let us continue to pray for Zewen and the ministries in Cambodia, and may our hearts remain open to the call of missions, wherever it may lead.
