From Christmas to Epiphany

As we step into 2025, the Christmas season is not over yet. So, here is wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Recall the joyful melody of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” — a fun song that takes us on a journey through twelve days of increasingly extravagant gifts, from a simple partridge in a pear tree to a dozen drummers drumming.

Between the birth of Christ and the Magi’s star-guided journey (Matthew 2:1-2), the Twelve Days of Christmas unfold, a sacred season nudging us on to a daily spiritual reflection into the New Year.

Day 1: Christmas Day – The Gift of Salvation

While the exact origins and symbolism of the fun song may be debated, let us focus on the greatest Christmas gift of all.

God’s greatest gift is His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to save humanity. (Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:21; Luke 2:10-11)

Day 2: The Gift of Hope

One of the most enduring symbols of hope during Christmas is light. The lighting of the advent candles signifies the presence of hope.

Hope, a gift from God, inspires us to overcome challenges and strive for a better future. (Isaiah 40:31; Romans 15:13; 1 Peter 1:3)

Day 3: The Gift of Peace

The Christmas peace, as proclaimed by angels, calls for harmony among all people. (Luke 2:14) This peace, a divine gift, can be found within us and in our relationships with others. By practising gratitude, forgiveness, and kindness, we can cultivate inner peace and contribute to a more peaceful world. (Mt 5:9; Rom 12:18)

Day 4: The Gift of Joy

In Isaiah 35:10, the prophecy speaks of a future time when the redeemed of the Lord will return to Zion with singing and everlasting joy.

Everlasting joy is more than a fleeting feeling of happiness; it is a deep, abiding sense of contentment and fulfillment that transcends the temporary circumstances of life. It is a joy that remains steadfast through trials and tribulations, a joy that is rooted in the eternal.

Day 5: The Gift of Love

Amidst the commercialism of the season, let’s rediscover the true spirit of Christmas. Cherish family gatherings, simple pleasures, and acts of kindness. Give gifts that reflect God’s love (John 3:16) and strengthen relationships.

Day 6: The Gift of Forgiveness

Forgiveness, a divine act of grace, offers healing and restoration. By choosing to forgive, we release ourselves from bitterness and create space for love and reconciliation.

This Christmas, let us embrace the power of forgiveness and experience the transformative impact it can have on our lives. (Ephesians 4:32)

Day 7: The Gift of Grace

God’s grace initiates our journey of faith. This journey, lived out in obedience to God, is not a burden but a liberating release from self-reliance. (1 John 5:3)

God works for the good of those who love him. (Romans 8:28). He empowers us to resist evil (James 4:7) and trust in His divine providence (Proverbs 3:5-6). Our mistakes and prayers are part of His plan, and He answers the sincere hearts of His children (Psalm 34:17).

Jan 1, 2025: Embracing the New Year’s Dawn

We often fall into the trap of believing we can initiate our own new beginnings. We may try to muster the willpower to break old habits or form new ones, but without God’s grace, our efforts are futile.

Therefore, let us approach the new year with humility and dependence on God. By surrendering our will to His, we can experience the true meaning of a new beginning.

Day 9: The Gift of Contentment

Possessions, often seen as a source of security, can ironically become a burden. The more we cling to material things, the more we worry about their loss. This constant anxiety traps us in a cycle of fear and insecurity. True security comes from trusting in God’s providence. (Matthew 6:31-34)

By placing our faith in God, we can experience a peace that surpasses understanding.

Day 10: The Gift of God’s Word

We often forget God’s Word, even in times of need. Regular meditation on Scripture allows us to be frequently reminded.

As we engage with Scripture, we should expect God to speak personally to us. This simple act can profoundly impact our lives.

Day 11: The Gift of Divine Timing

Life is filled with diverse experiences. Maintain a balanced perspective, neither clinging to the past nor rushing towards the future. God, in His divine wisdom, orchestrates the rhythm of our lives, ensuring that every season has its purpose.

As we navigate the complexities of life, let us cherish the present moment and trust in God’s plan. By acknowledging the transient nature of earthly things, we can set our hearts on eternal values.

Day 12: The Gift of Daily Renewal

Each day offers a chance for spiritual renewal. Seek God’s guidance and surrender your life to His will.

Through intercession, we can extend God’s love and grace to others, finding joy in serving Him.

Epiphany – The Revelation of Christ to the Gentiles

Epiphany, celebrated on January 6th, marks the culmination of the Twelve Days of Christmas. It commemorates the revelation of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, symbolized by the visit of the Magi.

May God bless you with joy, peace, and abundant blessings in 2025!
