Girls’ Brigade Enrolment 2023
30th April 2023
Girls’ Brigade 51st Company (Shuqun Primary School)
By Yap Xiu Zhen (Captain of 51st GB Coy)
We are delighted to have successfully held our Annual Enrolment in the church recently, welcoming all the girls and parents.
The Girls’ Brigade Ministry faces several uncertainties in 2023. As the Ministry of Education transitions to a 5-day work week for teachers, we are confronted with the critical decision of whether the GB should continue as a Saturday CCA. If we were to switch to a Friday CCA, the officers (mainly from JCC) would be unable to commit to the allocated time, rendering the ministry impossible to sustain. Additionally, we are experiencing a shortage of manpower as our officers are also being called to serve in other ministries.
However, God has always been faithful. I pray that God will provide a way for us to overcome these challenges.
This year, we have successfully enrolled six new recruits, all of whom chose The Girls’ Brigade as their top preference. God has also graciously blessed our current girls with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a heart to serve one another. Furthermore, I am grateful for two teachers who, despite being new, serve in The Girls’ Brigade with immense pride.
I would also like to express my gratitude to my officers who have been supporting me behind the scenes as I continue to serve in other ministries. Last year, we welcomed a new volunteer, Naomi Soh, an ex-GB/Shuqunite. I am excited to serve alongside her as her captain and witness the growth of the once young girl from PULSE into the remarkable woman she is today. Her younger sister, Neri Soh, has also been assisting us as an alumna for one year. As an older peer, she is greatly admired by her juniors, who eagerly look forward to seeing her every week.
Last but not least, we have been blessed with a church that is always there for us. I am sincerely thankful for the church’s support, both spiritual and practical. The love and care from JCCians is a source of continuous motivation to me and my officers to keep going no matter what challenges we face.
From the depths of my heart, I express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to The Girls’ Brigade ministry over the years. Your contributions, big or small, have made a real difference in the lives of young girls. I eagerly anticipate what God has in store for The Girls’ Brigade in 2023.
God Bless!
