JCC Futsal Fellowship

An Eventful Afternoon of Futsal
The JCC Futsal Fellowship was started in April 2022 by a few brothers from our Chinese section.
Over the past three years, they have invited friends including non-believers to join their futsal games. What began as simple friendly matches steadily grew into a regular fellowship. It is a beautiful reminder of how a common interest in a sport can build bridges and foster meaningful relationships, opening doors for us to share our faith naturally.
A truly special aspect of this Futsal Fellowship is the diversity of its participants. We have seen people from all walks of life and every age group, from young children and youths to those in their sixties, all coming together.
18th May 2025 (Sunday) marked the first time the Chinese and English sections of JCC collaborated on playing the futsal game together, signifying a meaningful step toward unity and shared activities.
Just before the game, it was pouring rain. We specifically prayed for good weather. Though the rain didn’t stop entirely, it lightened enough for us to play safely—there was no lightning, and the rain added a unique, memorable twist to the experience. Playing futsal in the rain turned out to be a joyful and bonding experience for many, as we found ourselves missing passes we usually wouldn’t and watching people slip and slide.
One of the most heartwarming aspects of the day was seeing how our shared passion for futsal brought everyone together. New friendships were formed, and existing ones deepened. This sense of community and camaraderie is what keeps players coming back week after week, month after month. We are not just playing a game; we are building a community centred on love and joy that flow from Christ.
As we reflect on this event, we are reminded that friendships are forged through shared experiences, kind gestures, or even a simple game of futsal in the rain. May God continue to nurture these connections and open doors for future growth.

A Refreshing Take on Exercise
Hello, I am Jian Rong, 26, from the E-lids cell group (Everlasting Light in Darkness). You are reading this now that my aching legs have (hopefully) recovered!
Exercising isn’t usually my favourite activity; I tend to lose interest quickly. That is why I prefer working out with friends or peers, and honestly, the type of exercise doesn’t matter much. Sometimes it is casual sports like badminton, bouldering, or bowling, or simply going for a run together.
This time, it was futsal. On Sunday, May 18, around 3 pm. Preacher Barnabas invited me to play at ActiveSG Jurong East Sports Centre. I didn’t overthink it; it seemed manageable enough.
The group consisted of about 10 to 12 people, mostly Chinese-speaking brothers, along with a few English-speaking brothers and sisters. Preacher Barnabas opened the match with a prayer, and then the fun began.
It had been ages since I last played soccer or futsal, so I was worried about accidentally “handballing” the ball constantly—thankfully, I didn’t! However, I did get tired quickly, as my fitness wasn’t quite up to par.
As it began to drizzle, I noticed how fast and agile Preacher Barnabas was for his age. Is this what active aging looks like?
By the end of the match, I had made new friends and discovered another enjoyable way to stay active and lose weight. If you are interested in joining, feel free to contact Preacher Barnabas of JCC Chinese Section.
