Running A Seed Increase
When you are down to the last few seeds of a line, the priority is not selection but making more, which breeders call a seed increase or open pollination run. Grow out everything, let all the males contribute and keep every seed, accepting that the result is a snapshot of the population, not an improvement. The logic behind doing this before any selection work is explained at https://breederregularseeds.com, and it is the step people skip and regret. Five seeds is one bad germination away from losing the line.
