JCC Dialect Ministry Parent’s Day Celebration 2025

This year, the Dialect Ministry celebrated Parent’s Day on Sunday 25th May 2025. We had a fantastic turnout with many of us inviting friends and family members to join the celebration. The attendance reached 112 people, our highest so far in 2025! This number was particularly notable because we only had 88 gift packs to distribute and only ordered 90 bento boxes for dinner.

The service followed our traditional order, starting with worship songs led by the Worship Team, followed by Bible reading, a sermon and the offering.

During the offering, three young girls came up to present “Chin Chia Ho” to rhythmic cheerful claps from the elderly aunties and uncles. I think these aunties and uncles, perhaps tired of seeing our older faces, thoroughly enjoyed the fresh, youthful performance. It is interesting how different that is from shows like America’s Got Talent or Britain’s Got Talent, where older performers often receive standing ovations, likely because of their talent and impressive age.

Nearing the end of the service, those who are parents and grandparents were requested to stand up and be blessed by the pastor. To our pleasant surprise, when the Dialect Team members distributed the gift packs, there were enough for everyone, with some left over! The Dialect Team members had abstained from taking gift packs themselves to ensure there were enough to go around.

The bento dinner was also much anticipated. This time, we had a special treat: an ice-cream man serving ice cream wrapped in bread! Seline and Kin Siong generously sponsored this dessert, arranging for 100 servings. Amazingly, despite the higher attendance, neither the food nor the ice cream ran out, and everyone enjoyed their meal with dessert. It seems some of the 112 attendees must have left early without staying for refreshments.

We look forward to more people joining our Dialect special services and be encouraged to stay as members. We also hope to see more young people coming up with new acts in Hokkien to perform for our elderly attendees.
