Jurong Christian Church – A 57 Year Journey of Faith

Looking Back

The story of Jurong Christian Church (JCC) began in the 1960s, fuelled by a vision for evangelism in Jurong’s growing industrial area.

The journey proceeded in earnest in 1966 with faithful Lutherans working out of a rented shophouse. The landmark date, however, is July 9th, 1967, marking the official launch of regular Sunday services even before a dedicated church building graced the landscape.

Reignite

As JCC commemorates its 57th year in July 2024, it’s not just a time to look back. It’s a call to reignite the fire for Christ’s work. Reverend Anthony’s recent sermon emphasized the importance of “remembering,” a word that appears frequently in the Old Testament. But remembering, he argued, goes beyond mere nostalgia. It’s about actively living out the lessons learned and recognizing God’s unwavering character ‒ His omniscience and omnipresence.

Fruits of Faithfulness

Nestled within Jurong’s industrial heart, a church took root, its story resonating God’s guiding hand. Every step of JCC’s journey, from securing the land to raising a two-storey church building, became a testament to the power of a united community. This spirit continued to flourish as ministries blossomed, like the JCC Kindergarten established in the 1970s. These successes were a beacon of the unwavering faith and tireless dedication of the congregation.

As time passed, JCC faced a new need for more space to run its ministries. We had little financial resources to rely on, so we brought our need to God in prayers. God’s blessings know no bounds. Towering as a testament to God’s unwavering grace, the current modernized church building embodies the power of faith. It whispers a message of hope, reminding us that even the most daunting financial hurdles can be surmounted with unwavering belief.

JCC has become blessed to be a blessing, collaborating with other churches and providing a welcoming space for them to hold their own services and fulfill their ministry needs.

Looking Forward

God has a purpose for JCC.

Singapore is known as the “Antioch of Asia,” a centre for spreading the Gospel. How is JCC fulfilling its role in this mission?

Reverend Anthony emphasizes that the answer lies not in elaborate strategies, but in a spiritual awakening. JCC’s resilience during the pandemic through online ministries and the Goshen Initiative displays our ability to adapt and follow God’s calling in all circumstances.

The future is brimming with possibilities. Reverend Anthony encourages JCCians to actively participate in upcoming community events and national prayer initiatives. By remembering the past challenges and God’s unwavering presence, strengthening our faith to remain true to the mission in Christ, JCC can ensure the fire of faith continues to burn brightly for generations to come.
