Money No Enough 3

I am not sure what made the Dialect Cell Group decide to come up with this plan to bring the elders to watch the latest Jack Neo movie, “Money No Enough 3”. There were many issues like how to find a theatre which is wheelchair friendly, how to transport the elders to the theatre and how to manage this event in a public space. All these issues were not yet settled when we made the announcement and 35 people signed up.

Our plan to watch the movie on a Thursday in place of CG meeting had to be brought forward to a Tuesday because we were afraid the movie would have its final screening before then. Originally, we planned to watch it at Jurong Point but had to change because the theatres at Jurong Point were not wheelchair friendly. We had not really planned how to bring those on wheelchairs to the theatre too.

However, on 5th March 2024, every issue was resolved and we went to JEM for the 12:15pm show. Those who were able, came on their own to the theatre whilst the others were ferried by car to the theatre by 3 volunteers. To top it all, the ticket price for the elders on that day was only $4 instead of $5 as on other days. We will make a refund to the elders for the difference collected.

We had a time of pre-show dining and fellowship at the nearby Kopitiam. Around 12pm we shepherded the flock into the cinema hall for the show. Although it is basically simple family entertainment, I feel that there is something interesting about a comedic subplot in the film. This subplot humorously touches on the challenges of a Christian daughter in a Buddhist household. This relatable scenario might offer both believers and non-believers in our group some meaningful food for thought on navigating differences within a Singaporean family.

After the movie, the group headed back to the Kopitiam to have some post-show tea break before heading home.

As the group was coming out of the theatre, there were some who showed interest in watching another movie that was on the billboards. Some of the elders have never been to a cinema for many years and this was their first experience. Is the Dialect team game to try again?

Thanks to Deacon Nathan and Florence who waited at JCC for the elders who could not make their own way to the theatre. They coordinated the transport for these elders. Thanks also to Seline who went around to search for a suitable theatre to bring the elders to watch the movie. Thanks to Peggy who went early to JEM to book the tickets and also “chope” some seats in the Kopitiam for the elders.

Finally, thanks to the Dialect team members who came to support the event even though they had watched the movie already.
