Nias Missions Nite
Tomorrow’s Hope (Children’s Home) arranged an 8-course buffet dinner with yú shēng, as a finale, in MPH3 on 27th Jan 2024 to share the ministry work that had lasted 27 years. Pastor Michael Christian invited friends of the ministry from Indonesia to share their testimonies. On display were the essential oils and lotions which are distilled by the residents of Tomorrow’s Hope for sale to raise funds.
By profession, Ibu Lina is an accountant and she is also the chairperson of the foundation. Meanwhile Ibu Abigail is an educator and supervises the Children’s Home in Nias. Both ladies were accompanied by their husbands. As a side story to their sharing, both ladies mentioned that they had no intention to serve in the ministry but after visiting the Children’s Home a few times, they felt compassion for the children and stayed on despite their initial misgivings.
The guests arrived around 5pm and started milling around the display of essential oils, smelling them. At 6pm dinner commenced and while the people were eating, Pastor Michael shared his testimony of his 27 years in Nias. He reminisced that in the beginning he was wondering what was God’s plan for him and the ministry. He wrote down that he wanted to give the underprivileged children a hope for the future, a proper education, proper food and hygiene, a skill (eg farming, carpentry, tailoring). He also wanted to teach the children to pray, to know the Gospel so that they can be a blessing to the world around them.
In closing Pastor Michael shared that Tomorrow’s Hope does not have sufficient funds to operate but being a faith ministry, they trusted God to provide and He did. To grow the ministry, they need to raise more funds to take in more children and social workers to care for them. Pastor Michael encouraged those who would like to help the Children’s Home come visit Nias for a short term stay of 3 or 4 months.
