Alphabet Soup: Utilise God’s heavenly resources

By Bryan Tay

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. — John 15:16 (NIV)

Our God created the whole universe and everything in it. Heaven’s storehouse of riches is always open to those who ask, seek and knock in Jesus’ mighty name. As His children, we do not lack anything. God knows that we need resources to do His work. He expects us to ask. He will willingly give abundantly, always in His good time, never too early or late.

Here is where we need to do our part diligently to trigger the release of God’s resources: Accept His authority over our lives, Believe in His promises, and Cry out to Him. God does not only provide physical resources. He also sends His angels who are ministering spirits to protect and serve His children. And when the situation calls for it, God Himself will intervene directly to achieve His desired purpose. This is our mighty God.

What does God say about this?

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:19 (NIV)

And whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. — 1 John 3:22  (NIV)

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. — Malachi 3:10  (NIV)

What does this mean for practical living?

Remember that we live both in the physical realm and the spiritual realm. As Christians, our world is more than “WYSIWYG” (What You See Is What You Get). We cannot see things that happen in the spiritual realm unless God opens our eyes to them or chooses to reveal them to us. In everyday life, we make use of earthly resources to solve problems. But not all problems can be solved with earthly, physical resources.

For each situation in your life, call on the heavenly resources in God’s storehouse. Do not rely solely on our material resources and human beings, even kings and princes. Follow the example of holy men in the Bible and Jesus himself by invoking God’s action to protect His name, administer justice and bring glory to our Father in heaven. Let God fight the battle for us. We simply need to follow His instructions. Remember how God provided Nehemiah with resources to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem in 52 days, which was a monumental task at that time! If God has placed a burden on your heart to do something, He will provide the resources to make it happen.

Reflect and respond to God’s Word

  • Who do you run to for help first when a problem arises? Why?

  • What do you need to do to trigger the release of God’s heavenly resources?

  • Commit to God a current situation that you are facing. Invoke His help. Draw from His heavenly resources and see Him act.
