Shining a Light on the Invisible - How LSCS Serves Our Vulnerable In Community (VIC)

Many people walk among us unseen, not because they are literally invisible, but because society often chooses to overlook them. These individuals — the tissue paper sellers, tin and cardboard collectors, the homeless and anyone feeling ignored — are present in every community, yet marginalized and forgotten. We call them the Vulnerable In Community (VIC).

Singapore’s Vulnerable-in-Community (VIC) Network, coordinated by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), connects government and community groups to help those in need.

Life Shine Community Services (LSCS), a collaboration of churches in JCC Hub, is a member of the VIC Network. These churches comprise Jurong Christian Church, Jurong Tamil Methodist Church, Renewal Christian Church and New Life Baptist Church.

Operating under the radar, volunteers from these churches quietly give back to the community, balancing their work lives with acts of service.

The compassion of JCC and LSCS shone brightly during the pandemic. Their vital role in supporting rough sleepers culminated in a well-deserved national COVID-19 award.

Even after the pandemic, LSCS continues its vital work supporting the Vulnerable-In-Community (VIC) population.

Matthew 25:31-46 reminds us to help those in need. True faith goes beyond belief – it’s about showing God’s love through our actions. Every act of kindness, every time you help someone, is what matters most.

This means our faith isn’t just about going to church. It’s also about showing God’s love by helping the VIC. Every kind act, every time you help someone out, that’s what Jesus wants us to do.

LSCS’ tireless work for the community was recently celebrated. On April 27th, 2024, at the Jurong West Volunteers Appreciation Day held at Boon Lay Community Club, Mr Desmond Lee (Minister for National Development and Minister-in-Charge of Social Services Integration) presented LSCS with an award in recognition of its dedicated volunteers.
