Moonlit Musings: Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival

On September 7th, we had a blast as Christian emcees hosting the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in JCC. Attendees at the event ate mooncakes, played games, solved riddles and enjoyed being with friends and family.

Here’s a glimpse into our musings on divine providence, gratitude, community and hope that resonated deeply with us.

  1. The Full Moon: God’s Divine Providence

The full moon is a symbol of beauty, abundance, and spiritual enlightenment. In Christian terms, it’s like God’s divine spotlight, illuminating our lives with his grace.

Think Psalm 121: “I will lift up my eyes to the hills. From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Just like the moon shines on us, God’s love and care light our way. Deacon Nathan’s sharing about the Spirit of God being the only true heart-filler resonated with us all.

  1. A Harvest of Gratitude for God’s Abundant Blessings

The Mid-Autumn Festival is harvest season, a time to express gratitude for Earth’s bounty. As Christians, we’re called to be grateful for all that God has given us.

Remember the ten lepers healed by Jesus in Luke 17? Only one returned to say thanks. Jesus commended him, saying, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?

Gratitude shows our dependence on God and strengthens our relationship with Him. God’s abundant provision for JCC was evident in the success of the event. With over 80 attendees and glowing compliments, it was a night filled with gratitude and joy.

  1. A Family Under the Moon

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a family affair, emphasizing human connection. In Christianity, the church is our spiritual family.

Hebrews 10:24 encourages us to “consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

By connecting with other believers, we find support, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Managing a diverse crowd wasn’t easy, but with the support of our JCC family, we felt like we were in this together. The love and care we shared with the attendees was a reflection of God’s love within us.

  1. Looking Up to the Future with Hope

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time to look forward with hope and anticipation. As Christians, our ultimate hope is in the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:13 reminds us that we are “awaiting a blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

By focusing on this hope, we find strength and perseverance.

While there are folk stories and legends that link the Mid-Autumn Festival to pagan practices, its themes of gratitude, community, and hope resonate with Christian values. By understanding these themes through a Christian lens, we can deepen our appreciation for God’s blessings and our faith in Jesus Christ.

May your Mid-Autumn celebration be filled with joy, laughter, and the abundant love of God. As you enjoy mooncakes and gather with loved ones, remember to look up, not only at the moon, but also to our Heavenly Father.
