JWCG “Nostalgia Night”

There is nothing quite like revisiting the past to bring a community closer together.

On June 5th, 2026, members of the Jurong West Cell Group (JWCG) gathered for “Nostalgia Night” ‒ an evening filled with delicious food, retro fun, and cherished memories.

The goal of the night was simple: take a break, reminisce, and strengthen the JWCG family bonds through food and classic games. Gathering around the dinner table brought everyone closer as they shared stories and laughed together. The entire evening captured the spirit of Psalm 133:1: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”

Feeling Young At Heart

The evening kicked off at 6:30 pm with a simple yet delicious buffet dinner that set a warm, welcoming tone. The room quickly filled with lively conversation as plates were piled with food. For the senior members (who make up the majority of the group), it was a wonderful opportunity to share stories from the past. For the younger members, the relaxed atmosphere provided the perfect setting to feel integrated into the group.

In Matthew 18:3, Jesus said, “Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” This spirit of becoming like little children was beautifully seen in the elderly members of JWCG. Leaving behind the worries of age, these wonderful seniors showed that they are still young at heart. They displayed so much life and energy.

Reconnecting Through Retro Games

After dinner, the real excitement began! Everyone participated in classic childhood games that transported them back to their younger days.

Games Played included: Dum (Draughts), Chapteh, Pick-up Sticks, Hula Hoops, Five Stones, Snakes-and-Ladders, etc.

The room buzzed with laughter and friendly competition. Some members focused intently on a game of Dum, tested their finger dexterity on a jumbled pile of pick-up sticks, or showcased their hand-eye coordination with Five Stones. Others took a more energetic approach, trying to keep a Chapteh airborne using only their feet or spinning Hula Hoops around their waists. Even the classic board game Snakes-and-Ladders brought out bright smiles.

Watching the members laugh and play brought to mind Proverbs 17:22: “A cheerful heart is good medicine.” The joy of simple games never truly fades, no matter how old we get.

Moving Forward Together

Ultimately, the night wasn’t about winning. It was about looking around the room and realizing that no one has to walk through life alone. The members left feeling very blessed to have a community like JWCG, where they can enjoy being together.

By the time the event ended at 10:00 pm, one thing was clear: while the games belonged to the past, the happy memories made that night would keep the JWCG community moving forward together in love and joy.
