Cycling Trip

On a Friday night, the cycling group gathered in church for a midnight Odyssey to Sentosa. This ride was considered slightly challenging due to the presence of the new Lim Chu Kang Road, as this adventure is 50 km and cyclists must do a lot of manoeuvring along the path to Sentosa and back.
Before heading off, the cycling group committee ensured that all cyclists had their bike lights present and that their bikes were serviceable for riding. Safety and conducting brief rides over by Brother Patrick, Bishop Anthony and the rest of the safety and fellowship ride team. Together, we travelled as one group while Brother Patrick and the others ensured there were no cyclists left behind. Without any consideration, the committee decided to bring everyone to Chinese Garden MRT even though it was not part of the route to get the bicycles serviceable.
At Chinese Garden MRT, I became confident enough to learn how to use one of the cyclists’ bikes while the others took the opportunity to catch up and fellowship with one another. One of the cyclists was watching me and mentoring me to prevent mistakes. With both committee members following the group, there was no fear of being left behind. I am thankful for the support and care shown by the ride group at Chinese Garden MRT.

On the way to Sentosa, the committee asked one of the passers-by to help the group take a photo. The passers-by were engaging too. He suggested using the headlights on the bicycles to shine towards the whole group to make the photoshoot studio effect where lights are used to make the photo look clearer and brighter.
Cycling inside Sentosa was a challenge, as there were upslopes, downslopes, sharp turning points and bike lifting, as there are stairs up and down for pedestrians. All this was worth it when the whole group finally reached the quiet Siloso Beach. The whole group took a break by enjoying ice cream at the 7-Eleven nearby and took the opportunity to admire the beautiful sea while having a chat. There was a sense of peace and calmness. As we chose McDonald’s as our meal stop, there was a feeling of fulfilment.

When arriving at West Coast Park, a group of youths stopped Patrick and Daniel for help, as one of their road bikes had punctured. Both immediately took out their tools to get the road bike serviceable. They both laughed at each other as another round of changing the inner tube for this ride began. The rest of the group were impressed by how quickly they managed to repair the bike. The road bike rider, who was a stranger to them, felt a sense of relief and was appreciative of their help.
For those who enjoy making new friends and going on an adventure like this, I highly recommend joining the cycling group for the next adventure. If you are afraid that distance is too long for you, no worries, as there is a safety team to support you throughout the ride. We are not going fast, and if you fall behind, there will always be someone accompanying you. We are not racing fast, and if you do fall behind, the group will slow down for you. We are not racing fast; if you fall behind, the group will wait for you and ensure that no one is left behind.
