NCCS July 2023 E-Newsletter
Dear Members and Friends of NCCS,
NCCS will be 49 years old on 24 July 2023. We thank God for guiding the leadership over the years in its service to the church in Singapore, and look forward to celebrating our 50th Anniversary next year.
NCCS continues to share its concerns with the governing authorities regarding practices that could impact the values of the traditional family. On 21 June 2023, the Council gave its feedback to the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) on the decision of the Family Court to allow for Grandparent Adoption.
The Council concurs with the judgement of the Guardian in Adoption (GIA) that the proposed adoption would be ‘a fundamental distortion of the original familial relationships’. NCCS also agrees with the GIA when it stated that this arrangement would be ‘against the order of nature and contrary to the child’s welfare.’ Grandparent adoption may not necessarily be in the best interest of the child. Therefore, NCCS has recommended that MSF works with the Courts to review grandparent adoption in Singapore.
In the attachment is the July e-newsletter for you and the leadership of your church and organisation, and we trust that the information will be helpful to all.
In His Service,
Rev Dr Ngoei Foong Nghian | General Secretary
National Council of Churches of Singapore
