Ideation of JCC Ladies’ Lunch
Ideation of JCC Ladies’ Lunch & How it all started:
The ideation of the JCC Ladies’ Lunch began with a WhatsApp conversation between Florence and me at the beginning of February 2025. She shared her desire to build intergenerational relationships among women in the church and asked if I would be interested in being part of the brainstorming process. It was also something that had been on both Florence’s and my heart—to explore how JCC ladies across different life stages could support one another through friendship, mentorship, and prayer. However, we felt that there were limited opportunities for intentional mingling outside of our cell groups.
After approaching a few ladies, we began considering how a women’s fellowship lunch (held alongside Koinonia Lunch) could serve as a platform to spark conversations and build friendships.
The initial planning committee comprised Aunt Beng Lay, Aunt Ewe Ewe, Florence, and myself. After seeking approval from the ESL and the Reverends at the end of February 2025, we launched our first Ladies’ Lunch session on 30 March 2025. We had an unexpectedly strong turnout of 83 ladies. The session included a simple lunch, fun icebreakers designed to encourage interaction, small group sharing of thanksgiving, and a time of prayer. Following the first session, we gathered feedback from participants to better understand what they would like to see in future sessions. It was heartening and encouraging for the team to receive such positive responses.
The success of our first Ladies’ Lunch inspired and motivated us to continue planning future sessions. We also began asking more intentional questions about what we hoped to see and cultivate in these gatherings, constantly reminding ourselves of our initial aim of fostering intergenerational bonding. In addition, we used the consolidated feedback to consider who else we could invite to contribute to the planning of subsequent lunches, ensuring fresh ideas and giving more ladies a sense of ownership.
2nd & 3rd Ladies’ Lunch:
At our second Ladies’ Lunch, we were encouraged by the testimony of Aunt Lissa, who shared how God had been with her since her childhood. We also had a lively icebreaker session, where we got to learn interesting fun facts about one another!
For our third Ladies’ Lunch, we had the privilege of inviting Shi Hui and Aunt Iris to share in a fireside chat (moderated by myself). They spoke about how they have incorporated faith and godly values into their decision-making through various life transitions (e.g., from marriage to parenthood). They also shared how they strive to balance family and work, with the support of both their families and the church community, and were open in sharing their struggles.
Indeed, God has been faithful in seeing the team through these three sessions, raising up different ladies to share their testimonies so that all of us may be encouraged. The team has also been deeply heartened by the overwhelming responses from the JCC ladies.
Since the third Ladies’ Lunch, the team has grown to include Florence, myself, Aunt Ewe Ewe, Aunt Lissa, Hannah, Xiu Zhen, and Vanessa. It is our prayer that JCC ladies—regardless of age or life stage—will continue to support one another, stand as prayer warriors, and eventually engage in mentorship and peer mentoring along this spiritual journey, as “iron sharpens iron.”
