God speaks through the Bible

One December night last year, Martin was in a dream when he rolled off the bed and hit the floor. Initially, he did not think it was serious but after a few days of pain on his right side near the ribs, he decided to visit the Polyclinic.

The doctor sent him for an X-ray, which revealed a suspected rib fracture. As it was not serious, the doctor prescribed Panadol for the pain and allowed the fracture to heal naturally. However, the X-ray also showed a shadow (white image) near the lungs which could not be identified. Another X-ray was done from a different angle the following week. Still, the shadow could not be identified. Thus, the doctor recommended a CT scan.

Martin was referred to a lung specialist in SGH who said the same thing about the X-ray and recommended that he get the CT scan done. While waiting for a date for the CT scan, I became anxious and turned to God for assurance. While I was reading the Bible, God showed me Psalm 31:23, “The Lord preserves the faithful.”  The verse gave me great comfort, but I did not tell Martin because I was not sure that I got the message correctly.

After the CT scan, we had to wait 2 weeks for the result. I began to worry. The CT scan result was due on Monday 17th March; and, in the sermon for the Dialect service on Sunday, 16th March, the preacher mentioned Luke 13:34, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.”  The speaker said that God is like the hen which always wants to protect us under His wings. Hearing this message, I was comforted.

On the 17th March, as we waited for the shuttle bus to SGH, we saw a hen walking along the path followed by four little chicks. This was a rare sight for us because on the many past occasions we were at this bus stop waiting for the shuttle bus to SGH, we had never seen a hen and her chicks walk by. It was God’s reminder to me of His love and promise.

When we saw the doctor, he told us that the CT scan was clear. All thanks and praise to God! Our God is really a faithful, loving and ever-living God.

I have experienced many times when God used Bible verses to speak and comfort me. Whenever I am anxious and in need of encouragement, I know whatever He promises, He will fulfil. All glory, honour and praise be to God. Amen.
